Arthouse Theaters

If you want the latest and greatest in foreign and independent filmmaking, look no further than Charlotte's two arthouse theaters, the Manor Twin in Myers Park and the Ballantyne Village Theatre in Ballantyne. The Manor Twin has two screens showing independent films that may not be showing anywhere else. The Ballantyne Village Theatre features a more upscale experience offering up gourmet concessions and alcoholic beverages to accompany it's cinematic offerings.

Dollar Theater

While a slight misnomer as ticket prices are now $2 a show, most people know that a "dollar" theater is a value-priced movie theater showing second-run films. If you're willing to wait a few weeks to see a movie this is your best bet for an inexpensive theater experience.

Drive-In Theater

Drive-in theaters are hard to come by these days, but there is one nearby that Charlotte-area moviegoers can enjoy. Bill's Belmont Drive-In Theatre shows films on two screens from February or March through October. The drive-in boasts 289 parking spaces on a four-acre lot and a reasonably-priced concession stand. However, in May and June you might want to park an hour early to assure a spot.

The Light Factory

The Light Factory is Charlotte's Contemporary Museum of Photography and Film and features presentations of films, both past and present, that have an impact on society. Showing at least on film a month, the Light Factory provides an enlightening experience for filmgoers.

IMAX Experience

The cinematic wonder that is IMAX is available in Charlotte at the Discovery Place Museum. The state-of-the-art domed theater offers mostly documentary films shot in IMAX with the occasional feature film shown. This cinematic experience is like no other.
