NASCAR lovers, golf aficionados and water dogs unite as Charlotte and its surrounding communities offer something for everyone. If you prefer following sports to participating, take a gander at the NFL's Carolina Panthers, the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats or minor-league baseball's Charlotte Knights. If you'd rather play, Charlotte features many state-of-the-art golf courses, is home to the U.S. National Whitewater Center and near Lake Norman and Lake Wylie for boating, skiing or fishing. Mecklenburg County is also home to many athletic leagues for men, women and children of all ages.
2008 NASCAR Coca-Cola 600
The NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race followed by the NASCAR Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway are huge events for NASCAR in Charlotte. The drivers love being in their hometown and the city embraces its love for NASCAR.
2008 Wachovia Championship
The 2008 Wachovia Championship is Charlotte's premiere PGA Tour event in Charlotte played May 1-4 at the Quail Hollow Country Club.
2008 NCAA Tournament East Regional
But now Charlotte will play host to the Big Kahuna of the college basketball world, the NCAA Tournament, when the East Regionals come to town March 27-29.
Lowe's Motor Speedway
Lowe's Motor Speedway is home to two NASCAR Nextel Cup races annually.
Charlotte Eagles
Charlotte's professional soccer team, the Charlotte Eagles, play from April to August each year.
Charlotte Checkers
The Charlotte Checkers are part of the ECHL (East Coast Hockey League) and are the affiliate of the NHL's New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack.
