Grocery Shopping in Charlotte

By Addie Rising, About.com

Charlotte has several area grocery store chains that all provide customers with an opportunity to join their loyalty programs for additional savings throughout their stores.

Bi-Lo
South Carolina headquartered Bi-Lo operates 11 stores in the Charlotte region. The Bi-Lo customer loyalty program is called Bonuscard and provides savings throughout the store.

Bloom
Bloom, owned by Food Lion, is a unique shopping experience allowing visitors to customize their shopping experience. The Salisbury, NC-based company operates six area stores and provides a customer loyalty program called Breeze.

Earth Fare
Asheville-based Earth Fare operates two Charlotte stores in Ballantyne and SouthPark, providing customers a healthy, organic grocery experience. Earth Fare stores also features a cafe popular among the lunch crowd.

Fresh Market
With three Charlotte-area locations, the Fresh Market might not be the most convenient store to get to, but if you find your way to one you won't be disappointed. Fresh Market has one of the best meat counters and produce departments in the area and the heat-and-serve food selection is great. The lemon orzo pasta salad is a huge hit in my house.

Harris Teeter
Harris Teeter, the largest grocery store chain in the area, offers double manufacturer's coupons every day up to $.99 and several times a year offers triple savings on the value of the coupons. If you play your cards right you can use your manufacturer's coupons to save triple the value on items that Harris Teeter already discounts through it's member rewards program, VIC. To obtain a VIC card, simply visit the customer service desk at any Harris Teeter location.

Food Lion
With many locations in the Charlotte area, Food Lion's stores may not be as modern or upscale-looking as Harris Teeter or Lowes, but they are the only store to offer online coupon printing through the Food Lion website. Like other stores, Food Lion offers customers a loyalty rewards program called MVP.

Lowes Foods
Lowes Foods has significantly fewer stores than Harris Teeter, but the ones they have feature gourmet deli counters and vast produce departments. Like Harris Teeter Lowes Foods offers double the savings on manufacturer's coupons up to $.99 every day. Lowes Foods also provides customers with the chance to triple the coupon savings several times a year. Lowes offers its customers an opportunity to enroll in its customer loyalty program called Greenpointswhich provides savings on products throughout the store and a chance to earn points and redeem them for free groceries.

Trader Joe's
The California-based neighborhood market, Trader Joe's came to Charlotte in 2007 and now operates three stores in the area. Trader Joe's is known for it's everyday low prices, it's lack of name-brand products and it's homey fun feel when you walk in the store. If you visit, don't forget to check out Trader Joe's wine selection. You will not be disappointed.
