Sponsored by the Christopher Columbus Italian Club of Charlotte, the Ciao, Italia! Festival was started in 1996 with the purpose of sharing Italy's incredible culture, traditions, arts, wine and of course, food, with the Queen City.

The club promises that this year's festival is shaping to be a huge event with non-stop entertainment, vendors, a chef's corner, wine tastings, kids games, food and more. There's a pizza eating contest planned, and several games of chance and luck.

And like any good festival, a highlight is sure to be the food. The club's sausage and peppers are a highlight of the menu, plus with eggplant parmigiana sandwiches, plenty of pizza and pasta, Italian ice, and pastries and cookies.

Past festivals have featured performances by Opera Carolina, Italian singers, Italian dancers, pizza toss demonstrations, cooking demonstrations, Italian language lessons, wine and cheese tasting, and a variety of children's activities. A variety of cultural artifacts from Italy are usually on display, and even a few Italian luxury cars.

From music to sports to arts to culture, there are always plenty of festivals happening around town. Click here for a month by month calendar of festivals in Charlotte. Know of a festival we don't have listed? Let me know at charlotte@aboutguide.com.
