Charlotte's Best Places to Watch a Game

By Addie Rising, About.com

It doesn't matter what your sport of choice is to follow, Charlotte is sure to have a place for you to go and cheer on your favorite team while sharing a drink (or several) with some friends. Whether you follow the Carolina Panthers, Charlotte Bobcats or Tar Heels basketball you're sure to find a spot with great food and cold beer.

1. Hickory Tavern

Hickory Tavern is one of Charlotte's best places to watch a sporting event.Hickory Tavern

11504 Providence Rd.
Charlotte, 28277
704-847-4408
The sweet potato fries alone keep me coming back to Hickory Tavern over and over again. Featuring some of the best food in town, period, Hickory Tavern also features a warm, inviting setting to hang out and watch a game as screens are abundant throughout the restaurant as well as the bar. Just don't get seated too close to the wall-sized big-screen or you won't see too much. Additional locations on Carmel Rd., Mallard Creek, Harris Corners and a brand new Ballantyne location.

2. Fox and Hound Smokehouse & Tavern

330 N. Tryon St.
Charlotte, NC 28202
704-333-4113
The Fox and Hound's décor is reminiscent of a turn of the century billiard room with dark wood and green leather in abundance making it the perfect place to not only watch a game, but enjoy a fantastic meal. The menu features bar fare with pizazz such as the Campfire Pot Roast Sliders and the Blackened Mahi Mahi sandwich. My personal favorite is the Georgia Chopped Pork, seasoned to perfection and served as a platter or on a sandwich roll. Oh, and lest not we forget it's a sports bar, the Fox and Hound features banks of televisions and several billiard tables. Additional locations in Ballantyne, Huntersville and near Northlake Mall.

3. Boardwalk Billy's

Boardwalk Billy's is one of Charlotte's best places to watch a game.Boardwalk Billy's

1636 Sardis Road North
Charlotte, NC 28270
704-841-8688
At Boardwalk Billy's it seems like it's always Happy Hour! The atmosphere is loud. The beer is cold. Peanut shells are scattered on the floor and everyone is having a great time watching their favorite teams. The consensus in my household is that Boardwalk Billy's has the best fried clams around and they feature a different dinner and drink special nightly. Football Sundays boast and all-you-can-eat crab legs feast and they also allow kids to eat free on Wednesdays with the purchase of an entrée. Additional location at University Place.

4. Stool Pigeons

214 N. Church St.
Charlotte, NC 28202
704-358-3788
Featuring $10 buckets of Budweiser beers on Saturdays and Sundays make Stool Pigeons your weekend sports destination. In close proximity to Bank of America Stadium and Charlotte Bobcats Arena make this a natural place to rev up before heading to a game. Be sure to try the Spin-Artichoke Dip and the Cheesy Bread! But, if you're not lucky enough to score tickets you can enjoy most games on a plethora of television screens located throughout the bar. Additional locations in Matthews and University area.

5. Kristopher's Sports Bar Grille

250 N. Trade St.
Matthews, NC 28105
704-845-6200
In the heart of downtown Matthews sits Kristopher's, a true gem for any sports fan. Walking into Kristopher's is a little like walking onto the set of Cheers. The floor is a green and white tile, the walls are wood, the staff is friendly and it's easy to just pull up a stool and settle in for a while. The beer selection is staggering, and the food - especially the wings - is quite good!
