The Charlotte Checkers are a part of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) and have been the hockey presence in Charlotte since 1993.

• The Charlotte Checkers are in the ECHL's South Division with the Augusta Lynx, vs. Florida Everblades, Gwinnett Gladiators, Mississippi Sea Wolves and the South Carolina Stingrays
• The Checkers are an affiliate of both the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL) and the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL).
• The Checkers have made the playoffs nine times, highlighted by an ECHL Championship in 1996.
