The State Flower of North Carolina: The Dogwood

North Carolina Department of Agriculture
In 1941, the North Carolina General Assembly designated the dogwood as the state's official flower. Many other flowers were considered, including the daisy, the goldenrod, the Flame Azalea, the Venus Fly Trap, and even the simple pine cone. But out of the competitors, the dogwood was by far the most common in the state, making the choice an easy one.

The flower is usually white, but can even be a shade of pink, red or brown, and can be found throughout the entire state.
