Concord Mills' NASCAR Speedpark Closes Its Doors

Thanks to a reader tip, I found out that the NASCAR Speedpark closed its doors over the weekend. Their official website indicates that the attraction was officially closed Saturday. A posting on their Facebook page says that their spot at the mall was,"recaptured and renovated." I recently mentioned that an aquarium attraction at the mall was being considered, and it looks like this is part of that plan. Another posting on the speedpark's Facebook page from just a few weeks ago mentioned the planned aquarium attraction would be located in that spot, but they hadn't received any notice of the termination of their lease. Since they've received that notice now though, it looks like the aquarium is going to happen.

The speedpark has announced that they're looking for other locations in Charlotte to reopen the park.

UPDATE:

While the NASCAR Speedpark may be gone, I received word that "The Speedpark at Concord Mills" has opened in its place! It appears to be fairly similar, with go karts, mini golf, a "spider jump" reverse bungee system, and a 100 foot "fun slide." There's just no NASCAR branding anywhere. The last I heard, NASCAR Speedpark was still looking for a new location as well. Looks like Charlotte may be doubling up on the "speedpark" fun! I also do know that the aquarium attraction is still planned, and as far as I know, it's going in this spot. I'll keep you updated on any changes.
