Charlotte's New Mayor is ...

Wednesday November 4, 2009

Anthony FoxxFor the first time in 22 years Charlotte has elected a Democrat for mayor. Anthony Foxx, 38, defeated Republican nominee John Lassiter in the 2009 general election, thus ending the party's 22-year stronghold on the office of mayor for the city of Charlotte.

The race was close with Foxx receiving 51.32 percent of the votes according to unofficial results, however the voter turnout could have been better. Of the county's 243 precincts only two had a voter turnout greater than 50 percent. Eight precincts had less than 10 percent of its registered voters participate in this election.

What do you think Mayor-Elect Foxx's biggest challenges are when he takes office? Leave a comment below!
