Is Charlotte Body Conscious?

Monday August 18, 2008
In recent weeks, two Charlotte media outlets have featured stories about women and their quest for body perfection. Today's Charlotte Observer ran a story by Kristine Crane called "Compelled to be thin" which focuses on the growing number of women in their 30s with eating disorders. And the September issue of Charlotte magazine talks about the "$20,000 Mommy Makeover" or plastic surgery to regain your pre-baby physique.

I just had a baby three weeks ago, my third baby. So these stories are striking a chord with me. I'm pretty happy to be fitting the clothes I wore last summer before I got pregnant and while I do feel there is a certain rush for women to get back to their ideal body size post baby or achieve an unrealistic "perfect body", I never saw this as a mounting problem in the Charlotte area. But then again, maybe this is just another facet of Charlotte trying to gain big-city status. What do you think?
